Musical Biography

As one can already read in his halfway regular biography, he began tormenting his grandfather’s piano at the age of five – shortly afterwards, the grandfather passed away. For whatever reason…

At the age of fourteen, he composed his first song.

At eighteen, he not only managed to pass his final exams but also received his diploma from the music school. Supposedly, this document certifies the professional title of “musician”… well, perhaps…

During his studies in Kraków, he received an award at a student festival and appeared on the television show “Spotkanie z balladÄ…” (“A Meeting with the Ballad”).

His first major role at the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw was Stach in the vaudeville opera “Krakowiacy i Górale”.

After his appearances in TV entertainment programs, in “Kabaret Jeszcze Starszych Panów” (“The Cabaret of the Even Older Gentlemen") and in the musical “Boso, ale w ostrogach” (“Barefoot but with Spurs”), he was given his own regular television show, “Mężczyzna na niepogodÄ™” (“A Man for All Seasons”).

Under the same title, he also recorded his first LP album.

With songs by Jerzy Wasowski, he won first prize in a radio song contest.
He wrote, directed, and performed in a musical revue featuring numbers from “Hair” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

In Vienna, after several American teachers and choreographers had only partially succeeded in explaining to him what the essence of a musical really is, he soon went on to win the television competition “The Big Chance” and in the following years, he performed in numerous productions, including:

•      a modern staging of Strauss’s operetta “Cagliostro,”
•      the musical film series “Donau in Noten”,
•      various television entertainment shows,
•      the musical “They’re Playing Our Song,”
•      the musical “Helden, Helden,”
•      the musical “Hello, Dolly!” as Cornelius,
•      the musical “Kiss Me, Kate” as Petruchio,
•      the musical farce “Florence Foster Jenkins Award,”
•      the musical parody “Forbidden Musical,”
•      the musical “Krawutzi, Kaputzi!”
•      the musical “Die Habsburgischen,”
•      the musical “Forbidden Ronacher,”
•      the musical “Lucky Stiff” as Luigi Gaudi,
•      the operetta “Der Graf von Luxemburg” as Prince Basil Basilowitsch,
•      the operetta “Die Rose von Stambul” as His Excellency Kamek Pascha,
•      and the musical “My Fair Lady” as Alfred P. Doolittle.

To bring things full circle, he now returns to Poland from time to time and with the greatest pleasure.
He wrote the script, directed, and hosted a concert celebrating the 100th birthday of his mother, Maria Koterbska.
For the Teatr Polski in Bielsko-BiaÅ‚a, he wrote the libretto for the musical “Viva Maria!”, in which he also plays the role of Jerzy Harald.
